A retired police sergeant has described Antifa’s structure as similar to that of an Islamic terror cell. Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith said during an interview with NTD TV program Crossroads: “Antifa’s structure is really more like that of an Islamic terror cell. But just because we don’t have a paramilitary structure for Antifa, [it] doesn’t mean they don’t exist and … they’re not dangerous.” This decentralized nature has made Democrats struggle to identify Antifa, Smith added.
The National Police Association spokesperson mentioned the group’s historical roots. “Antifa is more than just an idea, [it] has quite a history, going back to the 20s and 30s and Hitler’s brown shirts and then we come into the anarchists of the 60s through to today,” Smith said. During a Fox News interview last August, Attorney General William Barr dubbed Antifa as “essentially Bolsheviks” – in reference to the far-left Marxist faction that overthrew the Russian Romanov dynasty more than a century ago.
When asked about how Antifa may be designated as a terrorist group, Smith explained that there should be a particular focus on its actions. She elaborated: “For example … going back to radical Islam, these lone wolf terrorists. Are they a lieutenant or a captain in ISIS? No, [and] that’s how we have to look at Antifa. Do they follow the beliefs of Anifa, do they dress like Antifa, are they mobilized as part of Antifa. And that’s what we’re seeing, and I think we’re about to see it again this weekend.”
President Donald Trump has blamed Antifa for inciting violence and protests across the country since May. What were originally peaceful protests against police brutality and systemic racism have been hijacked by Antifa and other extremists – resulting in business being destroyed, looted, and burnt. Trump tweeted in June that he would designate Antifa as a terrorist organization, a sentiment he later repeated in September when he announced that both Antifa and the white supremacist organization Ku Klux Klan will receive the “terrorist” branding.
Antifa recently expressed their intention to take to the streets in case Trump wins the Nov. 3 presidential elections, following similar rioting back in May. (Related: Radical left plans to contest election if Biden loses Electoral College but wins popular vote, unleashing mass chaos.)
“We’ve got a couple of things brewing in this country. The National Guard has been activated in Minnesota. We may also get the grand jury results in the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin. If those things happen and people start to riot because of those decisions that were made in Minneapolis … you’re going to see Antifa mobilize. And people need to start paying a lot more attention to that and it’s dangerous to the American public,” Smith said.
Smith called on law enforcement to arrest Antifa members for violating the law and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, and urged every police leader in the country to document the “mostly peaceful protests” and show the American public what is really happening. People in the U.S. “need to be able to engage in peaceful protests” as part of their First Amendment rights, and peaceful Black Lives Matter protests proved this was possible, she said.
However, the “radical Marxist arm” of the movement has hooked up with Antifa to burn, loot and riot – putting law enforcement members in danger during the “peaceful” demonstrations.
“We have a law enforcement that is afraid of Antifa. [The media is] in bed with the left and so they don’t want to show these non-peaceful protests. The American public is being deceived … by the legacy media. And law enforcement officers are the victims of it,” the retired sergeant explained.
Smith’s call to prosecute Antifa to the fullest extent of the law echoes a similar sentiment by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who was almost beaten by protesters in August. During an Aug. 28 Fox & Friends appearance, Paul claimed that the mob was from out of town and were “paid to be anarchists.” The senator calling for federal agents to probe the “organized interstate racket,” remarking: “My feeling is that there’s interstate criminal traffic … but you won’t know unless you arrest them.”
